RE: Is FM 7.2 compatible with Windows 7?
You might want to try the compatibility patch I made for Frame 7.x so that it works better with Windows 7. You can find it here at the end of the Downloads page: http://www.siliconprairiesoftware.com/Downloads.html This application uses a compatibility shim to control settings for the FrameMaker 7.x executable file. A compatibility shim provides more control over settings that allow the older version of Frame to work with Windows 7. I've used it for a few years, going back to the Windows Vista days. It fixes the incompatibilities with the built-in compatibility modes, such as the slowdown you experienced with the XP compatibility mode. (I had found exactly the same behavior.) RE: Is FM 7.2 compatible with Windows 7?
I have Frame 7.2 running on a new Windows 7 desktop system and haven't run into any problems, so far. No special steps to install. --- On Fri, 9/9/11, Jeff Coatsworth wrote: From: Jeff Coatsworth Subject: RE: Is FM 7.2 compatible with Windows 7? No, I haven't installed Virtual PC. Maybe I'll try that at some point. Have you used it? If so, how does the performance hit compare to that from compatibility mode? It seems to me it would be greater, even with hardware assist. But maybe that's not a valid assumption. Richard G. Just curious Richard - did you try running it in the Win7 virtual XP machine to see if it made any difference than XP compatibility mode? -Original Message- From: framers-boun...@lists.frameusers.com [mailto:framers-boun...@lists.frameusers.com] On Behalf Of Combs, Richard Sent: Friday, September 09, 2011 10:06 AM To: Hossack, Julia; 'framers@lists.frameusers.com' Subject: RE: Is FM 7.2 compatible with Windows 7? Running it in compatibility mode for Win XP SP3 solved that problem, but made opening and saving files very slow. Updating a book took forever. I've started experimenting with different compatibility modes. Right now, I'm using the Vista mode, which seems stable and a little faster than the XP SP3 mode. HTH! Richard G.
