I highly recommended using Sequential fields for numbering in Word. Read
the one page in Word's help on Sequential fields. Then use the Tech-Tav
macros (free) to quickly insert them.

I've had a number people ask for the workshop, and I've sent it on.
The workshop is for formatting Headings 1 through 9.
I will be writing up the directions for formatting other levels, such
as 1., (1), a., (a), etc.
The concepts are exactly the same, so if you get the Heading 1 - 9

doc knows how to handle the numbering (and uses the same Word template).
