It appears you are using the pre-FM6 method of chapter numbering. I say this
because I don't see the <$chapnum> variable in your autonumber strings.
Here's the solution for the Appendices, and the same logic will also fix
your chapters.

And you only have two chapters in this book, correct?
At the book level, set the first appendix to start at 1, alphabetically A,
and then regen.
