You can try the "heroic open" command: ESC o H (three key presses: Escape, lowercase OH, capital H)
If it works (no guarantees, unfortunately) immediately save the file to a new directory / name and close it - do not try to edit it. Then open the new file the normal way and see what you have. Never screw around (um edit) with the Frame binary file in a text editor like notepad. FrameMaker builds a check-sum into the file, and even if the number of bytes doesn't change, you'll almost certainly mess up the checksum.
