If I am changing the paper size in my documents from letter to A4 which things
should I be aware of.
I am changing paper size, and then I suppose margins too.
What are recommended margins for A4?
Thanks for hints and tips (Frame 7.2)

I forget what the magic dimensions are, but there is a set of settings
for text frames that a few companies use that work, unchanged, on both
sizes of paper. Makes writing and pagination a bit easier because the
text layout and page count stay the same on both Letter and A4.

You will find the A4 template in tempac3/pro/a4.
There are also individual documents on each template pack in
http://www.adobe.com/products/framemaker/tempseries/pdfs/, but you can't get
there directly.
Add tempacx.pdf to the above URL, where x is the template pack, i.e.,
/tempac1.pdf,
I have a very precise template spec in German for A4 and amerikanisches
Format - their solution is to trim off a few centimeters on the bottom
margin!

All our docs are on templates 210 x 279 (not 297)mm. That way they
print OK on both A4 and on US letter.

Because Letter size is both shorter and wider than A4, my optical rule
says the margins must be narrower to the sides but maybe a little bit
larger for top and bottom than so often seen in letter size documents.
I think FM does some adapting when changing from letter to A4, but I
usually change

Did you look through the FrameMaker templates at
http://www.adobe.com/products/framemaker/tempseries/index.html?
I believe there is an A4 template in there somewhere.
These were all done in Unstructured Frame 5.5, I think, but should give you
the basic page layout.
