To follow the KISS principle:
- If someone on '17 saves as either flavor of MIF, the file that is
created is backward compatible with earlier revs.
- All features not supported in the earlier revs are discarded.
So AFAIK, there is no reason to make your new employee jump through hoops

As I said in the saveAs Mif Re: Framemaker 2017 save backwards topic, I
have a FrameScript that saves to MIF8, MIF10, MIF11, and MIF12, as well as
to FM8, 10, and 11. I think it's based on one of the example scripts Rick
shared a few years back, although I've expanded it to additional MIF
formats.
Thank you, everyone who responded. As usual, the group membership's knowledge
and experience, as well as willingness to share, is invaluable.
