To follow the KISS principle: - If someone on '17 saves as either flavor of MIF, the file that is created is backward compatible with earlier revs. - All features not supported in the earlier revs are discarded. So AFAIK, there is no reason to make your new employee jump through hoops --

As I said in the saveAs Mif Re: Framemaker 2017 save backwards topic, I have a FrameScript that saves to MIF8, MIF10, MIF11, and MIF12, as well as to FM8, 10, and 11. I think it's based on one of the example scripts Rick shared a few years back, although I've expanded it to additional MIF formats.
