Re: [Framers] FrameMaker/TCS 2015 Update 5 - which package? cumulative?

2018-04-15 Thread Monique Semp
I installed all five updates in turn, and things seem fine.
It was still rather a challenge to get the pods docked to the right
side -- instead of drag-and-dock within the FrameMaker blank space, I
needed to drag-and-dock inside the file-content window. Then I did the
drag-and-dock of the files-pod to inside (on the left) the file-content
window. And then finally was able to drag-and-dock the whole combined
thing, and everything sizes/resizes as it did before (meaning, in my
   Windows 7 setup).
Still haven't really exercised FrameMaker on the new Win10 setup, nor
have I installed the many add-ins/plugins I rely on (FM2PDF,
Pubs-Tools, CudSpan Doc Tools, PageLabeler, Book Utilities, Silicon
Prairie tools, a bunch of Rick Quatro's utilities, and likely other
things I'm not recalling at the moment), nor the many font packages
I've used over time for a variety of clients.
But at least the basics of FrameMaker 2015/TCS seem to be working on
   Win10. So a win :-).
   Thanks for the help,
   -Monique

I"ll plan to get to this within a week or so (installing the updates in
   turn), and report back.

2018-04-11 Thread Monique Semp
Ah, thanks for the info. IIRC, I got the new (and therefore separate)
Acrobat to support a specific feature I wanted. But I was unable to
upgrade to the new Acrobat from the Acrobat that was part of the
versions of TCS and Creative Suite (CS) that I had. And a new Acrobat
was much cheaper than a new TCS or CS.
I"ll plan to get to this within a week or so (installing the updates in
   turn), and report back.
   Thanks for the help!

  1. I don't see an individual TCS updater package listed - IIRC if you update
any component in the suite, it prompts the update all the other components. You
can install just FM out of the suite if you like (you just have to turn off the
installation of the other components). Your separate Acrobat Pro license was a b
it of a waste since it's included in the suite already. Just make sure that you
don't get the "headless" Distiller that comes with FM messing with your "full" v
ersion - the TCS installer has been known to get that messed up sometimes.
  2. Don't think one exists.
  3. IIRC it was only with FM2017 that they went to cumulative updates that all
owed you to skip to the highest one. I'd play it safe and install each in turn.

Subject: [Framers] FrameMaker/TCS 2015 Update 5 - which package? cumulative?

   Hello, Framers,
First, my apologies. I did try to search both the Adobe site and the
[framers] archives, but although plenty of similar questions, seemingly
no definitive, likely-still-valid answers. So... I'm wanting to check
on some FrameMaker files that I haven't used since I got a new Windows
10 machine (actually, a Parallels VM on my Mac, but I think that fact
irrelevant). So now I'm trying to figure out which updates I need.
And why do I need updates? The dreaded tiny fonts, unmanageable
windows/docking, and the like. I already tried setting the program's
shortcut properties to Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling
performed by System, which helped enormously, but not sufficiently.
I believe that I initially installed Tech Comm Suite Update 1, based on
what's showing in FrameMaker's Help > About FrameMaker: version
13.0.1.385. (I simply copied my install files from my old PC to my new
PC, so I'm not positive which version. But I am pretty sure that the
"1" in 13.0.1.385 means Update 1, based on the convention apparent in
   the chart at
   [1]https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/product.jsp?product=22=W
indows, where the third dot number seems to correspond to the updates.
   So here're the questions:
   1. Is there a separate Tech Comm Suite Update package or is the correct
update just the individual FrameMaker Update
   ([2]https://supportdownloads.adobe.com/product.jsp?product=22=
Windows)? I actually don't care at the moment about any of the TCS
   components other than FrameMaker.
I'm using a totally separately licensed Acrobat DC Pro, and I've never
used RoboHelp, Captivate, etc. (I thought I would when I purchased TCS
originally, but just never did.) I don't know if I'll want to use other
TCS components sometime in the future, but it's not seeming all that
likely (given my shift to static site generators and working for
startups that don't want to tie themselves to an expensive authoring
   toolset).
   2. If I need a Tech Comm Suite 2015 Update, where can I find that?
(Yes, I could use the updater, but I far prefer to have the actual
downloaded file where I know it is, and to do the install via
   RevoUninstallerPro.)
   3. If I need the individual FrameMaker update instead, do I need to
install updates 2, 3.1, 4, and 5, in turn, or can I just skip to Update
   5?
   4. Any other advice?
   Thanks,
   -Monique
