Arrow navigation in FM tables

2007-03-08 Thread John Pilla
I recall (among other custom) configurations,
that when I last used FM (5.5) I was able to customize a file,
and thus enable using the arrow keys to navigate within an FM table.

(Why Adobe continues to leave this out - is a mystery to me.)

However, that was about 7 years ago.
So can someone refer me to where, if any - this is documented,
or how I might go about configuring FM to enable this?

Thanks.

John,

Read the Online Manual, Customizing Frame Products (in your FM install
directory). I think what you need to do is add some lines to a
customui.cfg file,

Modify MoveIPToPreviousCell KeySequence /Left
Modify MoveIPToNextCell KeySequence /Right
Modify MoveIPToCellAbove KeySequence /Up
Modify MoveIPToCellBelow KeySequence /Down

Re: Arrow navigation in FM tables

2007-03-08 Thread Peter Gold

Hi, John:

You can read about customizing FrameMaker's menus and keystrokes in
Customizing_FrameMaker_Products.pdf in the onlineManuals directory of
your FrameMaker installation.

When you learn the notation of FrameMaker's universal (unix-originally)
keystrokes, you'll be able to interpret the codes for table operations,
and other stuff, too, that's listed in the command files. FrameMaker has
keystroke sequences that are mostly mnemonic, for almost everything you
can do with mice and menus.

Briefly, for some table operations:

NOTE: In this notation, ! represents the Escape key.
NOTE: To perform an action, tap the keys in sequence; don't hold them
down in combinations.

NOTE: Case matters.

To move around in a table:

! t m r (table move insertion pointer right one cell)
! t m l (table move insertion pointer left one cell) (l is lowercase ell)

To select in a table:

NOTE: To get the best mnemonic value from these sequences, think of
Highlight rather than Select

! t h e (table highlight entry; that is, current cell)
! t h r (table highlight row)
! t h t (table highlight table)

Thanks, your e-mail sparked my ever getting older memory,
this is what I now recall doing (7 years, ago).
I had created an extensive CustomUI file, and I had lots of
customization's.
Like arrow key navigation in tables,
and Font size style drop-downs akin to MSWord, etc.

Hello Stuart,

With this modification, you are able to navigate
in tables with the arrow keys - but navigating
within paragraphs is then no more possible.

There's a free FrameScript TableNavigation.fsl
available: http://www.itl.eu/108.0.html#c400
that lets you navigate within tables with the
arrow keys.
(Unfortunately, currently only the german site is
online.)

Kind regards,
Klaus Müller, itl AG
