As I pointed out in my post to John, your guess is wrong. Nothing is stripped from a TOC file if it is renamed and included in a new book file. The TOC set-up is part of the book component properties. When generating a file, Frame for each generated file: 1 - looks for a correctly named file. 2 - If not found, creates a new empty file based on the first non-generated file in the book. Will also a reference with the required definitions. 3 - If found, opens the file and strips out all paragraphs with formats with suffixes matching the generated file (*TOC, *IOM, *LOT, *LOF). 4 - Based on the list of paragraphs or elements in the book component, Frame then builds the generated file. Note: Number 3 above makes for interesting observations. The new generated content is created in the same place as the deleted paragraphs. I'm not sure if it is the location of the first of the last deleted paragraph that determines the start point for the generated content, but you can have generated files with standard text at the beginning and end which frame will always leave alone when generating the file. How do I get TOC styles to appear in Setup Table ofContents"Include Paragraphs Tagged"
Joe, We are converting a bunch of books from one template to another. We don't want to manually specify the paragraphs formats that are included in the TOC for each book by moving them around in the Set Up Table of Contents dialog. This information is *not* pulled in by importing styles from a template. As far as we've seen, Karen's method is the only one that works. Sorta defeats the purpose of a TOC template. -Huntley On 7/19/06, Joe Malin wrote: > > You have to move the styles manually, even if the template TOC file had > styles set up from before. I do not move any styles, just click the Add button. It creates TestTOC.fm 3) I open an existing TOC, we'll call it mpls_install_guideTOC.fm 4) I save it as c:\temp\TestTOC.fm and say its OK to overwrite 5) Return back to test.book, select Edit -> Update Book 6) Click all option except Apply Master Page, the testTOC is in generate, and click Update. 7) Highlight the file testTOC.fm, right click and select Set Up table of Contents No styleas are in the left side pane.
