Hi Steve Try the following: 1. Hold down CTRL+ALT and click a cross-reference to jump to the target, which is in a different file in the book. 2. Re: Rucksprung durch Technik: reverse hyperjump key?
I like Yves' novel solution! To clarify, the Ctrl-Tab doesn't actually take you back to the source of the cross-reference, but is the key which switches between open documents. (similar to Alt-Tab in Windows) When you activate a hyperlink in FM, the last document you were in happens to have the hyperlink, so you're closer to the link than you were. I have noticed lately that I get placed on the first page of my document. Usually I can use a cursor key (or the Go To command) to quickly navigate to my insertion point. -Matt Matt Sullivan technical communication | online training | eLearning twitter: @mattrsullivan phone: 714 960-6840 On Dec 13, 2012, at 7:09 AM, Yves Barbion yves.barb...@gmail.com wrote: Hi Steve Try the following: Hold down CTRL+ALT and click a cross-reference to jump to the target, which is in a different file in the book. Thank you Matt. To quote Leonardo Da Vinci: Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication. ;-) Indeed, CTRL+TAB is the way to switch between documents in FrameMaker. When I do this right after I clicked a hyperlinked cross-reference, I see that the cross-reference is even still selected, which is nice. Re: Rucksprung durch Technik: reverse hyperjump key?
Steve, We used to set up a giant BACK hyperlink along the left or right margin of the master pages of our documents. This would allow us a BACK function from anywhere we click on a hyperlink. Just set up a background text frame with hyperlink on the master page. cntrl-alt-click will then work from the body pages. Re: Rucksprung durch Technik: reverse hyperjump key?
Interesting... It used to be Ctrl-F6 to switch between documents. Indeed, in FM11 it still is. Ctrl-Tab is a nice alternative. Ctrl-F6 always struck me as being the ultimate in unfriendly keyboard shortcuts. Guaranteed to need the use of two hands because Ctrl and F6 are pretty much as far apart on the keyboard as you can get. Roger On 13/12/2012 11:11 AM, Yves Barbion wrote: Thank you Matt. Re: Rucksprung durch Technik: reverse hyperjump key?
If you press ESC, v, P it takes you back to the source location as long as the source and destination are in the same file. If source and destination are in different files you just go back to the source doc and you should be in the same place, as long as the file didn't close. Does anyone know why sometimes when you click on a cross-file cross-reference the source file closes and sometimes it does not close? I edited the *cmds.cfg* file to add an easier shortcut, ESC, b, b Mine is located at: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\FrameMaker9\fminit\configui\cmds.cfg It's not so hard to edit. You might want to give it a try. Regards, Shmuel Wolfson Technical Writer 052-763-7133 ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com. In v7.2 on Windows, Ctrl+Tab cycles through the open documents in the order last visited (the functional equivalent within FM of using Alt+Tab to cycle through the open applications). Thus after you use a hyperlink to jump from one open doc to another, Ctrl+Tab takes you back to the doc you came from (and of course, you're still at the same insertion point location). Of course, if only one document is open it does nothing. (I'm on Mac). That may make a difference -- I don't know. I haven't used a Mac since the old one-piece versions. :-} Richard G.
