I do not know what's the role of the files in %appdata%\Roaming\... because
there are

BTW: There is no clear explanation, why the learned words are not separated

the
system we have multiple linguistic folders and simply a mess in this area.

RE: what to back up before reinstalling

2014-10-29 Thread Reng, Dr. Winfried
Hi Carol,

I do not know whether this changed with FrameMaker 12.
However, FrameMaker 11 has its Linguistics folder not in
AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Framemaker\12, but in
AppData\LocalLow\Adobe

In the Linguistics folder there is the user dictionary which I definitely
would back up.

Best regards

Winfried

Sigh. I have to reinstall Framemaker 12 on my Win7 system. Before I
do so, I am creating a list of all of the files that I need to back
up so that I can restore all of my customization after I reinstall.
Here is my list so far (not including all of the add-ins and scripts
that are unique to my installation).

 Back up the following from
 C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Framemaker\12
Folder WorkSpaces (specifically the .cfsw and .fws files)
   Folder Linguistics
   File consfile.txt
   File maker.ini
   File pdfsize.ini

Back up the following from C:\Program Files
 (x86)\Adobe\AdobeFrameMaker12
   Folder Templates
   Folder fminit
   Folder plugins
   maker.ini

Any others? I will post the final list somewhere that will serve as a
resource to the rest of us; I've had no luck searching for such a
list on Adobe or by Googling.

Two additional questions: Does anyone know if backing up the
WorkSpaces folder REALLY allows you to retrieve your custom
workspaces after reinstall? I vaguely remember having a problem with
this when I upgraded to FM12. And do I need to deactivate my current
installation before reinstalling it on the same computer?

 Carol

Carol,First and foremost your maker.ini. This one is a MUST.If you have ANY
plugins installed, at a minimum, the \fminit\plugins folder. Wouldn't hurt to
take the entire \fminit folder, to go along with Winfrieds suggestion. If you
have ANY customized templates, that you copied to the Framemaker12 templates
folder for ease in locating them, the \Templates folder. If you have ANY
customized Structured applications, the \Structure folder.

Before you uninstall your current Framemaker12, you might want to just try
re-installing. That will refresh any corrupted files. If that doesn't work, then
uninstall and re-install.Dave

RE: what to back up before reinstalling

2014-10-29 Thread Syed Zaeem Hosain (syed.hos...@aeris.net)
Hmmm, instead of having to worry about all the details (although the
Linguistics folder is an exception – I was not aware of that), why not simply
make a complete copy of the folder that FrameMaker 12 is installed in?

That is trivially simple to do. Then you have a complete copy to retrieve from
as needed.
