Re: [Framers] ANN: Bottlenecks for the Ride for Roswell

2016-05-17 Thread Craig Ede
Maybe I'm wrong about this, but it seems to me that this sort of script might
take a very long time to run on any substantial number of paragraphs. But since
we are brainstorming, why not! And perhaps I'm misunderstanding the concept you
are describing. Could you post a rough graphic of exactly what you are talking
about.

I endorse this! It would be a huge help in our current design.

Hi Rick,

How about paragraph alignment towards spine and away from spine? Anchored
frames can be flexibly aligned this way, but not paragraphs! It would open
great layout options both on master and body pages.

Thanks for your offer to contribute your time.

Re: [Framers] ANN: Bottlenecks for the Ride for Roswell

2016-05-17 Thread Lin Sims
Personally, I'd love a replacement for the Clean Import plugin from the now
vanished ElectroPubs. Even when you're careful to keep the names the same,
it can be useful to strip out all the various tags and definitions and
layouts and references (especially, heaven help us, those color
definitions) so you know you have a blank slate to bring the new
information into. The only differences from the old version would be making
sure that if there's text with conditions in the document that that
particular condition tag is left untouched except for making it visible in
the resulting file and making it available book-wide.

On a far simpler front, an update to the old Cudspan TocBreaker would be
useful.

Re: [Framers] ANN: Bottlenecks for the Ride for Roswell

2016-05-16 Thread David Artman
   Great idea for charity!

My FM days are numbered at this point (barring a new employer) but one
thing I think would be awesome is a Search-Including-Insets function.
Not sure if that scriptable (can you script dialog boxes?); not sure if
one already exists. But I know for sure that it would have saved me a
LOT of hassle setting up "all-files" BOOK files and trying to remember
to add each new text inset as I made them and imported them where
   needed.

I'd also have loved some kind of script to run spell check 'into'
insets, too (though now my memory is telling me that above a certain
version, that Just Works now in FM?). But I always just switched to my
'BOOK of All Insets' to do that as well.

Finally... could a script figure out where automatic color definitions
were generated? I've had some LONG hunts in the past, trying to figure
out which (improper-file-type) indexed-color graphic junked up my
file(s). Not a big deal; usually easy to track down given time and an
IOR. But a "Search for source of Color Definition" dialog would have
been a lot easier than taking the long way around [make IOR, pull into
Excel, parse out extensions into their own columns, sort by extension,
track down all indexed-color graphic, open each in PShop to see if they
caused the non-standard Color Def--obviously, this is only needed when
SOME index-color graphics MUST be used but others SHOULD be
   PNG/JPG/SVG].

If I think of any others, I'll post again.

   Good on ya!

   David

   Hello Framers,
It is almost time for the annual Ride for Roswell to raise money for
   the
Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo, NY. My son, Jason, and I will be
riding 102 miles on June 25th. Normally, I provide scripts or plugins
   to
those that donate. This year I want to do something different: I want
   you to
identify some FrameMaker bottlenecks that could be solved with
   scripting. If
I like your idea, I will develop a script and use that to raise money
   for
   our ride.
I have one script developed already: OpenAllSpecial. It opens all of
   the
documents in a book without any alerts. This is useful if you have a
FrameMaker crash and you have a bunch of recover files. The script will
   use
the recover files automatically. Or, perhaps you don't have all of the
graphics, but want to open all of the files anyway without alerts.
Please email me with your ideas! Thank you very much.
