PNG is a raster format. It can't contain vector image data. (Adobe Fireworks used the PNG extension but included a lot of incompatible stuff.) Most vector file formats can also contain bitmaps. It used to be common that users didn't understand why EPS images looked terrible in FrameMaker, where they were looking at a low-res bitmap preview, and fine when printed. When I've seen "Vector PNG" images before, it's usually a Vector (AI/EPS/SVG) portion laid over a raster (PNG) image. Re: [Framers] Using vector images in Frame
Interesting! Converting a raster image to vector format usually is fraught with problems, so I wonder how well these folks do it. They claim to do JPG -> SVG conversions too. (Of course, converting from vector to raster is normal - "on the fly" from vector to display or print during the rendering provides the best outcome, of course.) Re: [Framers] Using vector images in Frame
That's because JPG is a raster (i.e. fixed resolution) image format. You need to use a file format that contains vector images or that can contain both raster and vector data. For FrameMaker, this typically means EPS, PDF, or EMF/WMF. When I was still using FrameMaker regularly, I usually used PDF cropped to contain the image with minimal whitespace borders. One advantage of PDF is that FrameMaker displays a better likeness of the graphic in the document view than it does with other vector formats (but this may have improved in more recent versions of Frame than I last used.) -Fred From: Framers on behalf of Doug Sent: Tuesday, August 25, 2020 3:26 PM To: An email list for people using Adobe FrameMaker software.
