Yep. Ran into this a couple of days ago. I've since made two tables,
one with the column and one without, and conditionaled the appearance.
A nuisance, but workable.

Bummer. Still, Cunning Plan still possible: move column that was to be
conditional to far right of table, run it into margin and set text to a
non-printing colour.
(I needed invisible markers in a huge table of references.)
