RE: Index Entry Under Wrong Letter

You haven’t got it stuck in an “L” range now, do you?

Subject: Index Entry Under Wrong Letter

Hi Framers,
My index marker text is Information and Data Management Group. Yet this entry
keeps sorting only under the letter L in the generated index. I have
double-checked to make sure that the leading i is not a lower-case L; in
fact, I retyped both the original text and the entry, and deleted the entry and
re-typed it again under a new marker. Another entry beginning with the word
information sorts correctly under i. This entry doesn't appear elsewhere so
it's not a duplicate marker. I pulled a standalone list of index markers by
alpha, and the same thing happens.

What would cause this behavior?

Thanks,
Karen

Weird. I'd experiment with Anformation and Data Management Group and
Znformation and Data Management Group to see if that made a
difference.

I'd also try creating a book from scratch to determine whether the
problem might be some kind of corruption in the project.

Re: Index Entry Under Wrong Letter

2014-08-29 Thread Karen Robbins
I added an Anformation... index marker as you suggested and made a
standalone index for this document. Both the new and existing markers
sorted correctly under A and I. So the document itself appears to be
OK. Then I generated a new test index for the whole book and, voilà, both
sorted correctly. So the error is (apparently) not in the book.

That leaves, possibly, corruption in the first index document. I thought
that with corruption I might see the wrong sort of that marker as well as
the correct sort. And if the first index file is corrupted would all other
updates to it appear correctly?

What else might affect this function?

Thanks again,
Karen
