Re: PDF question

2007-09-21 Thread Peter Gold
It's not clear if the poster wants to change only the link color, or all
color. My suggestion was based on changing only link color.

Re: PDF question

2007-09-21 Thread Eric Dunn
Why try to perform something difficult in Acrobat that is so simple
Framemaker?

Either two templates, On-Line and B&W Print, or simpler print one with "Spot
Color as Black/White".

If you don't want to distribute two PDFs, I remember Shlomo at MicroType had
examples of PDFs with different screen and print formatting.

RE: PDF question

2007-09-21 Thread Dov Isaacs
Jim,

It is certainly no setting in the PostScript driver or Distiller.
Without knowing your entire workflow and seeing the full contents
of your template, it would be very difficult to know what is going
on and how you are actually getting your desired effect.

The "color" versus "black and white" setting in the driver only
controls part of the PostScript generation, not all of it (and
certainly NOT any passthrough EPS). Conceivably, one could have
a Distiller "prologue.ps" file that redefines all color setting
PostScript definitions to cause black and white / grayscale, but
that certainly isn't anything we ship with any product.

RE: PDF question

2007-09-21 Thread Pinkham, Jim
I've never had time or need yet to delve into the how, but I have a
template book file in FM 7.1 that does exactly this. When I distill a
book (in Acrobat 6 Pro) created with this template, everything comes out
black, as desired. When I use a different book template, the colors
emerge. Has something changed since my configuration?

No, there is no "simple" way to do that via either driver or joboptions.
However, you can do what you want in Acrobat 7 Pro or Acrobat 8 Pro with
the color conversion options.

Re: PDF question

2007-09-20 Thread Peter Gold
Hi, Miriam:

In the FM file, if the links are colored with a character tag, you can
redefine it to black in one chapter, then import only character
formats to all files in the book.

If the links are colored by applying the color as an override, use
Find/Replace for Character Format (not Tag). In the Find format dialog
box, set everything to As Is except, set the color to the link color.
You can replace by pasting a character tag that sets only the color,
from the clipboard. Find/Replace works across books, so you can do
this in one swell foop, BUT remember to open and save all files in the
book for safety. Even better, copy the whole file set before
proceeding.
