Re: batch import formats

2013-11-08 Thread Matt Sullivan
I solve the dilemma you're facing using what I call a template-based workflow.Realistically, the formats of your docs don't have to be updated until the next time you edit or output content. When you begin a revision cycle on a book, import formats across all child Frame docs. (it's easy to do this at the book level) That way your files will stay in line with your latest template, and you won't have a 6,000 file process to chew on.If the files never get updated again, there's no need to ensure they have the updated template...

Re: batch import formats

2013-11-08 Thread Art Campbell
Had this same problem a few years ago; as I recall there were two options.

First was to create books that were containers for the content files in all
the folders, and do the apply format.

The second was to ping Rick Quatro (I'm 90% sure it was Rick, but it could
have been another script wizard) to run up a FrameScript that worked its
way through the directory structure and did an apply formats to whatever it
found with an .fm extension. I believe the script also did a copy operation
at the beginning of the script, so we'd have a backup of the original
source to fall back to if necessary.

We tried a few manually, then opted for the script solution. Saved so much
time it didn't require thinking about.

Does anyone know if this could this be done with FrameScript?

RE: batch import formats

2013-11-08 Thread David Artman
I'd just make a single-use BOOK file, drag them all in, and apply across the book.Get coffee. Then destroy the (now-pointless) book.Writing a FrameScript would take long, I imagine, but YMMVDavid

Re: batch import formats

2013-11-08 Thread Robert Lauriston
I did a similar project involving a few hundred .fm files in 20-30
books by creating a book, searching for .fm files across all the
directories, dragging and dropping all the files into the book,
selecting all the files in the book window, and importing formats.
