Re: mass update of system variable
Hi Lin, Thanks very much for this help. I created a MIF file with the system variable definitions I required and then imported that into different FM books. Lin Sims wrote: My concern with doing that sort of thing was that Edwin said there were hundreds of files to be updated. Opening that many either all at once or one by one, as Frame does when the files aren't already open, could tie up even the most robust system for a long time. If you would then import the variables from this file into other files (via import formats), you would import all variables. I would recommend to check the variable plugins from Leximation and Silicon Prairie Software: http://leximation.com/tools/ http://www.siliconprairiesoftware.com/ I do not know these plugins. However, I am sure they would help you. Re: mass update of system variable
I knew you could put books inside of books, but I haven't tried importing variables into a book file that contains other book files. I wasn't sure if Frame would open the document files as well as the book files. My concern with doing that sort of thing was that Edwin said there were hundreds of files to be updated. Opening that many either all at once or one by one, as Frame does when the files aren't already open, could tie up even the most robust system for a long time. RE: mass update of system variable
And BookVars from Leximation (see http://leximation.com/tools/info/bookvars.php) is an excellent tool for the job - I maintain all my variables at the book level for consistent use. As I have also mentioned before, it is the single most used add-on to FrameMaker that I have. Highly recommended.
