SOS - CORRUPT FILES
Hello Framers, recently I had a machine with a bunch of FM files being backed up in progress - crash! It crashed so bad that about half of all of my FM files went corrupt and I can't open them anymore. Is there any means to fix them or recover or whatever. The files appear all fine - I can open them with notepad, etc. but not FrameMaker. They have correct size too.Thoughts?Michael _ With Windows Live Hotmail, you can personalize your inbox with your favorite color. www.windowslive-hotmail.com/learnmore/personalize.html?locale=en-us=TXT_TAGLM_HMWL_reten_addcolor_0607
SOS - CORRUPT FILES
Thanks Lesley,I tried it. Unfortunately it didn't work. I googled a bit and there are couple guys that can do this (recovering) for money. Do you think it's worthwhile to send them the files?Michael> Subject: RE: SOS - CORRUPT FILES> Date: Fri, 22 Jun 2007 21:00:57 -0400> From: lsmalley at infocon.com> To: biozaichenko at hotmail.com; framers at lists.frameusers.com> > You can try the "heroic open" command: ESC o H > > (three key presses: Escape, lowercase OH, capital H)> > If it works (no guarantees, unfortunately) immediately save the file> to a new directory / name and close it - do not try to edit it. > > Then open the new file the normal way and see what you have.> > Never screw around (um edit) with the Frame binary file in a text > editor like notepad. Lester omitted one part of the instructions... you need to already have a FM file open before you attempt the "Esc,o,H" sequence... Art On 6/22/07, Lester C. RE: SOS - CORRUPT FILES
You can try the heroic open command: ESC o H (three key presses: Escape, lowercase OH, capital H) If it works (no guarantees, unfortunately) immediately save the file to a new directory / name and close it - do not try to edit it. Then open the new file the normal way and see what you have. Never screw around (um edit) with the Frame binary file in a text editor like notepad. FrameMaker builds a check-sum into the file, and even if the number of bytes doesn't change, you'll almost certainly mess up the checksum. You can try the "heroic open" command: ESC o H (three key presses: Escape, lowercase OH, capital H) If it works (no guarantees, unfortunately) immediately save the file to a new directory / name and close it - do not try to edit it. Then open the new file the normal way and see what you have. Never screw around (um edit) with the Frame binary file in a text editor like notepad.
