You're describing the markers from keywords method. Basically, you define the text term and the corresponding marker text in a table and turn the program loose. Instant index. With that as your method to generate markers, you need to build your tables. For this, you may want to look at markers

Man, I'm not even going to quote everything Hedley wrote. I'll second it as sound advice. We use IXGEN for various manuals, the largest of which is seven volumes and 1,400 pages before we create the index, TOC, LOF, LOT, etc. I start out generating a list from paragraph tags, and follow the
