Pete:
A few questions:
Is the Adobe PDF printer set as the system default?
Have you applied the FM8 patch?
Are you printing to the Adobe printer, or doing a SaveAs, or something else?
Are all the component files of the book open on your desktop?
In the PDF settings for the book, do you have Generate Tagged PDF on or off?

Thanks Fred for your response.

I do rebuilds on my system when performance degrades (my cobwebs).

I actually use Ghost which I update 1/year for a total system rebuild. Then
I have a shell script that runs all of the updates, but in this case, I had
not put the Framemaker 8 patch 266 in. Duh!

Cobwebs seldom cause real problems. The mere presence of a
bunch of long-dead junk on your hard drive is no reason for
concern. Back up, defrag, and get on with business.

Spending days reinstalling applications and wading through all
the necessary post-CD updates and patches and then working
through all the pesky compatibility issues *is* a problem. Even
with a fully current backup of document and data files, restoring
your working environment on a clean base installation after a
hard disk failure will completey destroy your productivity for
at least a couple of days and likely compromise it to some extent
for a week or more. Voluntarily putting yourself in such a situation
just to clean out the cobwebs seems really ill-advised, and I
for one would *never* do this unless I really *had* to (due to
OS corruption or some virus/worm/trojan horse infestation
that can't be cured by any other approach). I've got much
more useful things to do than to waste time looking for troubles
that don't exist until you start looking.

I've seen that type of error before.

One of your text frames (on page 2 or 3) is marked as PostScript code in its

frame properties. You need to toggle this option off.

Select the frame, right-click (or CTRL-click) the frame and select Object
Properties. Then look for the little PostScript Code check box on the
right
side of the pop-up. Deselect it. Your problem should go away.

Best of luck.

RE: System rebuild - can not print book

2008-02-04 Thread Pete Rourke
Thanks William,

I looked through the master pages, they were all clean as well.

So I printed each of the individual 23 files in the book to PDF, without one
hiccup. So I have a feeling the guilty file is book file.

So I'm thinking of assembling all of the 23 files, and importing them into a
new book.

Does that sound sensible?

Thanks again

Additional suggestions:

Check all the text frames on the master pages for PostScript toggling as
well.

Try searching for Rect to see if that can help find the offending object
(body
and master pages).

Try printing to postscript (Print to File...[schmoo.ps]) and then distilling
in
a separate step. This might help narrow down where the problem is coming in.

Finally, I would recommend checking the source document's PDF Setup
settings. I
have seen some bizarre cruft sneak in there under the radar while making
changes
to new machines or new doc templates.

I am running short of ideas here...I thought my last suggestion would get
it. Oh
well. Good luck with this even if I turn out to be no help after all...

System rebuild - can not print book

2008-02-04 Thread Pete Rourke
Thanks William,

I looked through the master pages, they were all clean as well.

So I printed each of the individual 23 files in the book to PDF, without one
hiccup. So I have a feeling the guilty file is book file.

So I'm thinking of assembling all of the 23 files, and importing them into a
new book.

Does that sound sensible?

Thanks again

Pete

Additional suggestions:

Check all the text frames on the master pages for PostScript toggling as
well.

Try searching for "Rect" to see if that can help find the offending object
(body
and master pages).
