I have submitted a merged PLIP https://dev.plone.org/plone/ticket/10902 for new collections in Plone 4.1
to replace the two outdated ones: - https://dev.plone.org/plone/ticket/9295 - https://dev.plone.org/plone/ticket/9283 (both of which i have now closed) Most of the implementation is already done.
