If the film is shrunken, Steenbecks can cause serious perf damage, because of the wrap of the sprocket around the prism. Scanners don’t have this problem. I would just look at the film on rewinds, with a viewer if need be, but not worry about listening to the track unless for some reason it wil

Hi all, I have 16mm silent and optical sound film I need to evaluate, clean, and repair to prep for digital transfers. Can't believe I gave up a 4-plate Steenbeck years ago. I haven't run my film projectors in years--refurbishing has been advised. I have a Moviskop viewer but no optical reader.
