Thanks to everyone who suggested readings. I'm going to be busy :)
It is a bit of a disappointment (but not really a surprise, since there is
so much good work being made everywhere) to see that none of the readings
are specifically about what's been happening in the US.

IndieCollect in NYC is a non-profit that owns a shiny new 5K Kinetta Archival
Scanner, and has been doing excellent work with it. Some of their recent
restorations of Apparatus films produced by Todd Haynes and Christine Vachon
are showing at the Metrogragh in NYC on Friday.
A light to medium grey screen or painting the wall grey will make a big
difference in your blacks!
