It's the camera announcement people are most excited about, which is ironic in many ways. will be fun, and only take very short lengths of film, but so what. It's sure to work a la 1915 style, but that's good enough. Fun is very important I feel. It only shoots what would be 36exp film, but it shoots 3fps in Super35 2perf, so it works out at something like 50 seconds depending how fast you are cranking. Kinda reminds me of the debrie pavro. Say, what with all these really cheap 35mm short ends all over the place can we be seeing a renaissance in real film making, like a back-to-the-roots time? Well the bad news is that those short ends will be ECN2, so you won't be able to process them at your minilab and the movie labs are not going to like getting a 36exp film to process. HOWEVER you could get hold of either 100ft Eyemo loads of doubleX 5222 or the same in normal 400ft loads. Black and white film is cheaper than colour and if you bulk load it onto film cassettes it will go a long way. Then you can process it yourself in a normal 35mm developing tank, just like still film. Alternatively you can of course just use still film as intended. Kind of like what happened 100 years ago with English poetry? I missed that one? Was that the invention of the biro or cartridge pens or something? [Frameworks] Super 8 developing lomo tank
Hi frameworks I've got some developing a foot tis weekend. I usually develop one film at a time in my 50ft tank instead of 2. This time I'm going to do 2 at a time. However I have hit a problem... Well two problems actually. The first: I snapped the smaller thread off the tightening device. Just snapped right off the last time I developed. I've made a quick fix but will be needing a new one. Any ideas where I can pick up lomo spares anyone? I don't really wont to have to buy another tank. I just need the little thread bit. Secondly, I poured one litre of water (I'll be using a 1ltr kit) into my developing tank just to make sure the water would cover both spirals. NO WHERE NEAR! In the bottom of my tank there was a little plastic nipple that raised the spirals. I sanded that off... Still no joy, the water still only just hit the surface of the top spiral... So I got my dermal and cut a bit of the base of the lower spiral... It just about works now but I would feel more comfortable if I new the chemicals completely submerged both the spirals. So I'm wondering if I add an extra 10ml of water to the first/colour developer, bleach fix... etc... would that make any difference to the developing times or much difference to the final outcome of the developed film? Would it still work ok? ThanksKevin ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks

I second the Alan Berliner recommendation. I saw the film several years ago, and thought it was very good. As I recall, it did a good job making the issue of insomnia palpable both in its personal effects and as a general problem, an assessment that it interestingly calls into question. -Robert Schaller Alan Berliner made a doc about his insomnia, Wide Awake I believe it is. There are two good docos about call centers in India, where the workers keep odd night schedules: Sonali Gulati: Nalini by Day, Nancy by Night Ashim Ahluwalia: John and Jane Very different in style and POV, so not redundant. Also, the guy whose rampage is the subject of the excellent doc Cul De Sac by the late Garrett Scott was a laid off late shift worker with insomnia. Some of the interview footage in this film is poorly shot, but don't let the odd look put you off. Overall, it's edited very well, very smart, and remains powerful, disturbing and extraordinarily topical. So all depends in the speed of the crank. Could it approach 12fps at least? Anything else would seem kind of weird. What do you get back from the lab if Wierd? Erm, you do know this is an experimental film list don't you? ;) you use off the shelf film? Negative? And how about that viewer? Could it be Depends what film is on yr shelf. If you use negative, you get negative, if you use slide film you get positive. Just like all the other cine film cameras! (You knew this really didn't you!) used to transfer to video? Or could/should the film be scanned using a regular desktop scanner one frame at a time? Will have to wait a while until some brave soul posts some footage online. Loads of footage online. Here are some of my favourites so far: http://vimeo.com/30738903 http://vimeo.com/30736653 http://vimeo.com/31025542 So many questions. But I do like it. A lot. Re: [Frameworks] I can´t sleep
Well, yes, of course, reading Mark Toscano's reply, there are all those films made at night. I saw one by Takashi Ito called GHOST. It was made in a dormitory in the company where he worked. And he wrote that he was sleeping like two hours a day because of shooting long exposures frame by frame. I highly recomend his work. SPACEY is very interesting. It uses animation techniques with photographs of a huge gym, but it seems like it was shot in the same painstaking conditions...I'm sure he didn't sleep much. And let's not forget Jeanne Liotta's OBSERVANDO EL CIELO. I am one of the unfortunate one that hasn't seen it, but the clips look really good and I am sure she didn't get much sleep while doing it.
