 Subject: [Frameworks] 16mm Prices

  Hi Frameworks

What is a reasonable amount to pay for the development of a 100ft roll
of 16mm film, both 100D and Tri-X in the UK?

I've been offering an affordable developing service for Super 8 since
january and it's going very well. People here seem very appreciative for
the service and quick turnaround. I've been getting a lot of questions
about 16mm so I thought I'd begin a service catering to reversal stocks.
Any advice on prices would be very welcome and appreciated.

  Best
 Kevin

Anyway, I'm looking to buy a boatload of 16mm film for a film I'm
working on. Does anyone have a lot of film they are willing to sell/give
away to a young filmmaker? It doesn't matter what kind of film, really, but
if I had to have a preference, I would say black and white.

 Looking to buy a lot.

Thanks, and I'm glad to be back on the list.

Re: [Frameworks] kickstarter

2012-06-19 Thread D Dawson
Bart,

I would say the following:

Will the filmmaker feel the film has an unfair chance at you festival?

Yes, they may feel that. You in fact will want to see the finished
film, it is a film you already know about and are interested in.

- so yes it does increase the filmmaker¹s visibility in your
eyes. Does that make the film any better? No.

- how many films have you Œheard of¹ and then when you saw it
you still didn¹t program it?

- the film still has to live up to your programming standards
regardless at what phase you encourage the filmmaker. -- so this doesn¹t
matter.

As a filmmaker I would be happy to know that a programmer was out there
supporting a Kickstarter campaign, when it were finished would I be sure to
tell you and that I was submitting it to your festival? Of course. Do I
know that being selected has so much to do with the other films submitted
and less to do with mine.

I would say please support! There is something about the film/filmmaker
that has you wanting to support it, that is good, and that is more important
than where it ends up, the film needs to be made before it can be screened.
Hey, we all hope it is a natural fit for your festival anyway, so hopefully
you won¹t have to worry about any of this.

Re: [Frameworks] kickstarter

2012-06-19 Thread David Tetzlaff
as a festival programmer will a filmmaker feel that that film will have an
 unfair chance at my festival?

If so, that's there problem. An experienced maker should understand that your
own personal interests are not necessarily those of the festival you direct.
You should be free to support promising projects that may not turn out at all,
or that will lead to productive growth for new makers that still falls short of
being competitive at any given festival...

As long as you act as Bart, not 'Bart The Director of Videofest there is no
line. The email that came inot my mailbox before this was an ad for Boris
Soundbite bearing your name. So are people who buy Soundbite to expect a leg up
at Videofest, or are you supposed to not work for or comment on Boris or FCP or
anything else because you direct a festival? i don't think so.
