**Doors at 5pm, screening starts at 6pm**

Video Playlist is a recurring series of one-night public video screenings
guest curated in response to MoCP exhibitions. Jesse Malmed will present a
program in conjunction with Peripheral Views that includes a live,
participatory performance during the screening.

Talk barely, talk breathily, talk American. The works in this screening
address the complexity of language and the myriad ways it shapes our
experience of reality. Any place as big as America, with as man
y voices as America, has a multitude of expressions that exist at the
periphery.

This program brings the following to a center: a Sci-Fi CAPTCHA tale, what
Microsoft Word found wrong with the Unabomber, how jargon becomes
gibberish, a report from the out-of-bodied, a political speech about
political speech, and finally, real talk from a pair of paper-mache dogs.
Following the screening, Malmed will present selections from The Body
Electronic, an ongoing and evolving series of participatory video-based
performances. Malmed offers a visual, polyvocal, and interactive experience
that engages audience members in dizzying, surprising, and humorous ways.

The screening features the work of Joe Sandler, Peter Rose, Peggy Ahwesh,
Doug Hall, Gabrielle de Vietri, Stephanie Barber, and Jesse Malmed.

This event is free and open to the public.

Re: [Frameworks] Recommended splicer for both 16mm and 8mm cuts?

2012-09-12 Thread Jason Halprin
I just looked on ebay for splicer 16mm and it came up with what would have
been my first 3 suggestions. Assuming you are looking for a hot (or glue)
splicer, The Maier-Hancock is great. There is also a Lomo that looks good,
though I've never used it.

If you want a simplified tape splicer, the Kodak Quick splicer is an option,
though I've always hated the S shaped cut it makes.

Re: [Frameworks] Recommended splicer for both 16mm and 8mm cuts?

2012-09-12 Thread Scott Dorsey
Yes, and that is the big split.

Do you want a cement splicer or a tape splicer? The cement splicer will not
work on mylar film, but you don't get two smeary frames.

Are you editing camera original or a print? The splicer needs to be set up
for the perforation pitch that you're using. Most of the Meier-Hancocks
out there are set up for short pitch camera originals rather than long pitch
printstocks.

Is there another list?  How could this be the wrong list?

Re: [Frameworks] Recommended splicer for both 16mm and 8mm cuts?

2012-09-12 Thread John Woods
Hi Meg, the Maier-Hancock is probably the best available and were popular among
professionals. Though the 816-S model is somewhat rare to come across, the
regular model is pretty common. I think I have one available that I could sell
you cheaply though the shipping from Canada would be horrendously expensive as
the M-H splicers are very large and heavy!

There are quite a few smaller cement splicers available on eBay, the Griswold
ones are more compact and are of good quality.

The Bolex is much cheaper and more easily found. It will work on both 16mm
and 8mm.

[Frameworks] Hollis Frampton DVD - defective discs?

2012-09-12 Thread John Woods
Anyone else have issues with the Hollis Frampton DVD set? I bought the set when
it came out and disc one arrived with a crack in it. I got it replaced from the
store played it once, and just now, months later, the replacement disc
cracked in the same manner when taking it out of the case! I've never had this
happen before with a dvd.
