[Frameworks] FONT options for Titles

2015-04-14 Thread Shumona Goel
Dear Frameworks,

We have recently made a short 16mm film / Super 8 too.

We are planning to shoot the titles with an animation stand this week. We
have found the font options are very digital looking and wonder if there is
a standard font that used to be used for titles.

Sorry for the banality of this question!

Warmest,
Shumona

 Hi Shumona,
I can’t speak to whether there used to be a standard font, however, if you
see a font that you like in a film, you can use a font identifier website
 like this one: https://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
 https://www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/
Just take a screen cap and upload it and it will give you a range of fonts
that are the same or similar.
It’s my experience from having rephotographed a number of films from digital
intermediates that the harsh digital look of titles softens through
photography to 16mm or Super 8. For example, the title at the head of this,
which was generated in Photoshop and then rephotographed to 16mm (this is a
scan from 16mm). I believe this was in the Optima family:

Another possible option would be to use traditional graphic design tools and
forego generating titles with a computer altogether. For example, you could
choose a font you like and search for a letraset sheet of it, etch out the
titles onto card stock and shoot them on the animation stand. I’ve done that
a few times and I think it’s pretty effective.
 Hope this helps!

[Frameworks] For sale: William C. Wees' Recycled Images and other film/video related books

2015-04-14 Thread John McAndrew
Hello all,

I've been having a major clear out of my book collection and realised I've
got a duplicate copy of this apparently OOP book published by Anthology
Film Archives in 1993 which I'm happy to sell. It's in excellent condition
with no damage to the covers and clean unmarked pages. I'm not sure of its
value as the only copies I can find are on Amazon which are extremely
overpriced and without descriptions (i.e. the sellers probably don't
possess any copies for sale), so why not make me an offer? You can either
reply to me here or to my dedicated email address which is
negativebo...@gmail.dot.com. I'm based in the United Kingdom and accept
payment in Pound Sterling through PayPal, and also bank transfer/cheque for
people who have a UK bank.

I have a whole bunch of other interesting books that I'm prepared to sell
too (including ones on experimental cinema and video art), you can find the
complete list here at negativebooks.tumblr.com/booklist. Again, please make
me offers on them! I'm more than happy to combine orders to reduce postage
costs. Conditions of the books vary as most are used and secondhand, but I
can send detailed descriptions and photos if any titles specifically
interest you.

Many thanks,
John
