Many thanks, everyone, for your wide-ranging suggestions. Makes one want to see
all of them. In case you’re keeping this thread (as I always do) Brittany’s
pointer to Martha jogged my memory of another Fassbinder circle in Chinese

Re: [Frameworks] Ferrania?

2016-02-18 Thread Sean Weitzel
You are right. The Eyemo is actually quite versatile for experimenting.
I've actually put 100 foot rolls of Velvia through my eyemo (when Velvia
was available in bulk long ago). Camera original 35mm footage when
projected back is stunning. I've also bi-packed black and white footage and
used the eyemo as rudimentary contact printer. Worked pretty good!

[Frameworks] negative conforming recommendation

2016-02-18 Thread Kevin Obsatz
Hello Frameworks!

I’m looking for a recommendation on behalf of a friend. He’s putting together
an installation that includes a 26 minute looping 16mm projection.

Currently he has an edited digital scan of the black and white negative
(without edge numbers, possibly a mistake) and he needs help either conforming
the negative and making a print, or getting the scan itself printed back to
film.

If he needs to get the negative re-scanned with edge numbers to make it work,
that’s okay.

Can someone recommend an individual or lab who would be willing to take on this
type of project? He can pay standard rates, not seeking a discount or a deal.

Thanks!

For a recent example, there’s a pretty amazing one at the end of Carlos
Reygadas’ feature film "Japon" - the final shot in the film is a several
minutes’ long, 360 degree dolly shot of, if memory serves, the aftermath of
some kind of violent event.

Hey Gene,

Bill Morrison's RELEASE does a formal exploration of a circular panning
shot of a crowd at Eastern State Prison (in PA), assembled to see Al Capone
released. He begins in the middle of the circular pan, adding a bit on both
ends, until we've seen the entire panorama. (The film is on Morrison's DVD
set.)

J. J. Murphy's SKY BLUE WATER LIGHT SIGN is a faux 360-degree pan.

The central section of Mulvey/Wollen's RIDDLES OF THE SPHINX is made up of
360-degree pans.

Friends,
I need recommendations of films that contain 360-degree dolly (or Steadicam)
shots. Like for example circling around people seated at a restaurant table,
but it can be anything. It seems to me there are “famous” ones in the French
New Wave, and there must be many others before and after that.

There is a 360-degree movement, camera facing outwards, in Otto Preminger's Die
große Liebe.
