I’m drawing a blank on the title and maker of a film that begins all white and,
after minutes of dark streaks, is revealed to be a cat drinking milk, shot from

[Frameworks] Watch The Philosophy of Horror at home with Péter, Bori and Dora

2020-04-29 Thread Péter Lichter
Dear Friend,

Hope you're holding up ok. We're living in experimental times so, as
experimental filmmakers, we thought we might as well contribute to that,
and bring some obscure, meditative chills to your home.

Directors Péter Lichter and Bori Máté, as well as producer Dora Nedeczky,
emailing you here. Cinemas might be closed for the foreseeable future, but
we have this uncontrollable urge to give you a sneak peak of *The
Philosophy of Horror - A Symphony of Film Theory
*, before the
premiere. In exchange for a small donation, you can check out the full 60
minute film from the comfort of your own couch/bed/hammock.

Get a Ticket

We've been working on our seven-segment found-footage film *The Philosophy
of Horror - A Symphony of Film Theory* for a year now. It's an abstract
adaptation of Noël Carroll ’s
seminal film theoretical book, a close examination of the horror genre. We
hand-painted and decayed 35mm film strips of the classic slasher *A
Nightmare on Elm Street* (Wes Craven, 1984) and its sequel *A Nightmare on
Elm Street 2: Freddy's Revenge* (1985).

We intend the film as an immersive meditation on genre theory, which aims
to demonstrate the eternal beauty of Art Philosophy and Pop Culture’s
interconnectedness. We believe that film theory is a magical, uncanny
space, something to dive into in these unusual times. The tactile images of
the decaying film and the collapsing body of the characters themselves draw
the observers into the process of perception in such a visceral way that
the boundaries of self and other, human and non-human, body and nature fade
away. Through this journey, you, the viewers, become part of the creation
of a new kind of coexistence where minerals, insects, liquids and bodies
grow into one thrilling symphony.

The first couple of segments have been very well-received at film
festivals. We premiered at Ji.hlava International Documentary Film Festival
 and,
among others, we're part of Go Short - International Short Film Festival
Nijmegen's European competition programme
 (where
you can watch Part I. until the 13th of May, 2020) and goEast Film Festival
Wiesbaden's Anarcho Shorts programme
,
where we'll present Parts I-III. on the 5th of May, 2020. Even Sight &
Sound Magazine had a couple of words

to
say about Part I. - as one the best video essays of 2019!

You can check out the trailer here or follow
us on facebook

 and/or instagram .
We’re keen to hear any feedback or questions about the film. If you’d be
interested in an online Q, please hit reply or send an email to
thephilosophyofhor...@gmail.com.

Stay safe and healthy. Warmest wishes,

Péter Lichter , Bori Máté
, Dora Nedeczky
