performing
ABERRATION OF LIGHT:
DARK CHAMBER DISCLOSURE
a live performance of 35mm projection and sound
followed by a q&a with the artists

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 15 at *7:00* PM
WHITNEY HUMANITIES CENTER
53 Wall Street, New Haven CT

"Using a series of film loops, crystals and manual gestures to bend,
reflect and refract the projector’s beam, the artists recast the theatrical
space of the cinema into a sensual three-dimensional encounter. *Aberration
of Light: Dark Chamber Disclosure* — its title suggesting the celestial,
the photographic and the musical — was developed specifically with Block,
who mixes and improvises field recordings and live instrumentation. Gibson
and Recoder retreat to the booth to intervene with the dual 35mm
change-over projection system, creating an extra-cinema 'chamber work.'"
- Andréa Picard, Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF 2011)

*Sandra Gibson / Luis Recoder / Olivia Block *have been collaborating as
expanded cinema artists since 2007. In 2008, their limited edition DVD *
Untitled* was released on the independent SoS Editions label. In 2009,
Sundance Film Festival featured the world premiere of *Untitled* as a work
for high-definition digital projection. Live 16mm projector performances of
*Untitled* in 2009-2010 include the TATE Modern in London, Redcat in Los
Angeles, Ballroom Marfa in Texas, and Morra Foundation in Naples.
Their second collaborative work, *Aberration of Light: Dark Chamber
Disclosure*, takes advantage of the expanded cinema potential inherent in
the 35mm changeover system of standard theatrical projection. Live 35mm
projector performances of *Aberration of Light* in 2011-2012 include
Toronto International Film Festival, Conversations at the Edge in Chicago,
Serralves Foundation in Porto, and Courtisane Festival in Ghent.

Free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 PM. *Seating is limited.*
