What type of Ensoniq card? Does it support 16-bit audio, or is it an older
8-bit only one?

Does FreeAmp require EsoundD or ALSA?
I don't see it saying that anywhere, but I get heavily garbled sound
when I try to play an MP3, any MP3 on my system. I've tried installing
the released binary and I tried recompiling it myself to the same
results.
I was VERY impressed with the interface and the My Music thing, but what
good is it if I can't play music? :)
I'm running Linux 2.2.12 with an Ensoniq sound card. Tell me if you need
any other information.
Could the problem be the card? When writing to the Ensoniq cards, things
are different. An excerpt from the speakfreely webpage conserning a
patch:
This patch makes it possible to use Speak Freely on Linux with OSS/Free
soundcard drivers that do not support ulaw format (ex: Ensoniq). The
format used instead is the standard 16 bit signed linear sample format.
Since Speak Freely uses ulaw internally, an extra conversion is done to
convert from ulaw to linear ( ulaw2linear() ) when playing sound and
from linear to ulaw ( linear2ulaw() ) when recording.
So, is this why I have the garbled audio, and is there anything I can do
about it inside FreeAmp?
Thanks,
Chris Carlin
