I can't tell you more on my computer, there nothing more than HP dv7.
I can't change brightness too, there is an acpi message: can't evaluate
\\_SB_.PCI0.PVGA.EVGA.LCD_._BQC - AE_NOT_FOUND
I have the same problem with this error message when acpi_video was loaded

After several months of problems with acpi_ec under FreeBSD 9-Current with
my HP Pavilion dv7, I tested your patch and it works perfectly !!!

What dv7 model do you have?. I'm curious if you have problems with
changing lcd brightness on your laptop. I can't change it with acpi_hp
