Clean up some markup issues in bectl.8:

- consistently use .Brq ({}) around alternative options
- consistently use .Cm for subcommands
(https://mandoc.bsd.lv/mdoc/style/commands.html)
- do NOT use .Ao/.Ac around .Ar (updated mdoc.7 coming with new mandoc release
explicitly tells NOT to do that, if it's being ugly is not enough)

[Bug 221777] merge the latest changes to the ig4 module from DragonFly BSD and add Kaby Lake / Intel 100 series platform support

2018-08-12 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=221777

--- Comment #12 from marc.priggeme...@gmail.com ---
(In reply to Daniel from comment #11)

That means that you can now access your I2C devices. There still is a bug in
ig4 that, I am not sure if I remember correctly, but either left- or right
shifts all I2C addresses by one bit (I think it was division, so it should be
2*your device address). Since it is consistent throughout modules (for example
the cyapa module besides others) it won't be a show stopper but it should be
addressed at some point.

You could try to apply the patch I now submitted for review and check if the
hid device can successfully be enumerated on your device (acpi_iichid). The
code ran on my laptop for almost a year now without issues but please consider
it unstable. It might cause a kernel panic on your laptop.

Apply patch.
Go to sys/modules/i2c/iichid, run make and kldload.
Go to sys/modules/acpi/acpi_iichid, run make and kldload.
You should then be able to see some output on dmesg. If your trackpad has
pointing device capabilities besides touchpad, you will have a good chance that
you can read descriptors from /dev/ims*
In any case you can use vmstat -i to verify interrupt handling if attach is
successful.

--- Comment #11 from Daniel  ---
(In reply to marc.priggemeyer from comment #7)

Success !!!
With your changes Marc, the "ig4iic_pci1: controller error during attach-2" is
gone.

I did a quick test loading "kldload iic" and then run sudo i2c -f /dev/iic1 -s
which reports now "Scanning I2C devices on /dev/iic1: 15". At iic0 it finds a
device at 0x20. That matches my expactation. Similar tests done Ubuntu show the
same result. So my touchpad and trackpad now seem to be visible. Thanks a lot.

I just tested against 12-Current for now.
I also tested suspend/resume. This still does not work.

Is there any other tests I can do to confirm your changes work ?

Thank you for sharing https://reviews.freebsd.org/D16698. I will have a look.

I have tried doing `apropos thread` and in addition to correct results, got a

still it seems to be untouched for a long time, and the attached patch should

[Bug 221777] merge the latest changes to the ig4 module from DragonFly BSD and add Kaby Lake / Intel 100 series platform support

2018-08-12 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=221777

--- Comment #7 from marc.priggeme...@gmail.com ---
(In reply to Oleksandr Tymoshenko from comment #6)

Please consider these two parts from the patch I provided last year:

In ig4_reg.h:
+/* Newer versions of the I2C controller allow to check whether
+ * the above ASSERT/DEASSERT is necessary by querying the DEVIDLE_CONTROL
+ * register.
+ *
+ * the RESTORE_REQUIRED bit can be cleared by writing 1
+ * the DEVICE_IDLE status can be set to put the controller in an idle state
+ * */
+
+#define IG4_RESTORE_REQUIRED   0x0008
+#define IG4_DEVICE_IDLE0x0004

and in ig4_iic.c
+   v = reg_read(sc, IG4_REG_DEVIDLE_CTRL);
+   if (sc->version == IG4_SKYLAKE && (v & IG4_RESTORE_REQUIRED) ) {
+   reg_write(sc, IG4_REG_DEVIDLE_CTRL, IG4_DEVICE_IDLE |
IG4_RESTORE_REQUIRED);
+   reg_write(sc, IG4_REG_DEVIDLE_CTRL, 0);
+
+   reg_write(sc, IG4_REG_RESETS_SKL, IG4_RESETS_ASSERT_SKL);
+   reg_write(sc, IG4_REG_RESETS_SKL, IG4_RESETS_DEASSERT_SKL);
+   DELAY(1000);
+   }

This reinitialization makes sure to activate the I2C controller after power
down if necessary. It is based on the Intel 100 series PCH documentation.

The board I used for tests has BIOS option to switch I2C controllers between
ACPI and PCI mode. In PCI mode ig4 works as expected in ACPI mode attach fails
with the same error. I didn't have time to investigate it popery yet. As a
workaround you can check for something like this in your device's BIOS.

Could you also post the output of acpidump -dt here? It may be useful.

[This is extracted from another context that
involved the Pine64+ 2GB.]

As of updating to -r337400 the Pine64+ 2GB no
longer will boot from the e.MMC on the microsd
adapter card. (I switched to tracking fully
modern dts use, u-boot, etc.)

So I tried a build via a USB SSD as the root
file system and swap partition. As reported in:

https://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-arm/2018-August/018605.html

it failed with an OOM kill.

This should have avoided I/O latency problems being
involved. (That message is part of a long on-going
thread tied to OOM kills, most of the reports involving
large I/O latencies being involved.)

I can not change the "Afects Only Me" status.

[Bug 230561] ntpd error: only one pidfile option allowed

2018-08-12 Thread bugzilla-noreply
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=230561

Ian Lepore  changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 Resolution|--- |Not A Bug
 Status|Open|Closed

--- Comment #3 from Ian Lepore  ---
The fact that the pidfile argument was included in the default ntpd_flags is a
historical and accidental mistake dating back to when the ntpd rc stuff was
imported from netbsd. The freebsd rc system does not support changing the
location of the pidfile to some arbitrary place it is unaware of; doing so
removes the ability to properly restart, stop, query status, etc.

In other words, while the flag was historically in the default flags, it could
never be usefully changed, and indeed if you do some searching you'll see that
its accidental presence in the defaults has led to many errors and questions
from users over the years as they tried to set ntpd_flags in rc.conf as you
would for any other service/daemon and accidentally removed the -p flag in
doing so.

So this change was NOT a regression, it was in fact the fix for PR 199127.

I've not seen the problem in a very long time.

The example was supposedly fixed in -r301884,
but that is long before Comment 2's report.
(2016-Jun-11 freebsd-current list submittal.)

I reported more examples later in 2016 but
but have no records of replies, as well as
Comment 2's 2017-Jan-25 submittal.

So while I think it was fixed, I do not have
a reference to just what specific attempted
fix finally got rid of the problem for cross
builds.

This is a regression, in prior versions of FreeBSD you could specify and
override the -p option that came from /etc/defaults/rc.conf. This new
/etc/rc.d/ntpd scripts does not allow that. This is force set policy which
FreeBSD should not be doing.

I am unclear why these user configurable defaults have been hard coded, but it
is bad design.

Bug ID: 230562
   Summary: /etc/rc: WARNING: $x_enable is not set properly -
see rc.conf(5).
   Product: Base System
   Version: CURRENT
  Hardware: arm
OS: Any

FreeBSD 12.0-ALPHA1 (GENERIC) #0 r337557: Fri Aug 10 03:49:58 UTC 2018

When starting up the latest 12-CURRENT on a BeagleBone Black, I see the
following warnings:

/etc/rc: WARNING: $resolv_enable is not set properly - see rc.conf(5).
...
/etc/rc: WARNING: $bthidd_evdev_support is not set properly - see rc.conf(5).
...
/etc/rc: WARNING: $ipfw_netflow_enable is not set properly - see rc.conf(5).
/etc/rc: WARNING: $devmatch_enable is not set properly - see rc.conf(5).
/etc/rc: WARNING: $cfumass_enable is not set properly - see rc.conf(5).

Workaround:

In order to silence the warnings, I added to /etc/rc.conf:

...
### Fixes for malformed startup scripts
resolv_enable="NO"
bthidd_evdev_support="NO"
ipfw_netflow_enable="NO"
devmatch_enable="NO"
cfumass_enable="NO"

[Bug 230560] NanoBSD's default value for NANO_PACKAGE_LIST doesn't work as intended and prevents packages installation

   Summary: NanoBSD's default value for NANO_PACKAGE_LIST doesn't

Patch

NanoBSD in 11.2-RELEASE (and 11.1 as well) flavors a nice facility, cust_pkgng
function, contained in defaults.sh .

defaults.sh also lists nanobsd.sh defaults. NANO_PACKAGE_LIST is used by
cust_pkgng to get the list of packages to install and is set by default to "*".

This setting prevents packages installation beside pkg-*, as the variable
doesn't expand as intended and the function aborts:

+ cust_pkgng
+ mkdir -p /usr/obj/nanobsd.NET4501/_.w/usr/local/etc
+ local 'PKG_CONF=/usr/obj/nanobsd.NET4501/_.w/usr/local/etc/pkg.conf'

+ uname -r
+ command rm -x -rf /usr/obj/nanobsd.NET4501/_.w/_.p

Setting NANO_PACKAGE_LIST to "*.txz" fixes the problem: one can override the
setting in nanobsd's configuration file, but I, for one, think that fixing
defaults.sh might be useful.

Patch attached.
