For years I have put 'device atapicam' in my kernel. If my memory serves my well, this was to assist with dvd recording. I must have missed something. Is it now as simple as adding hw.ata.atapi_dma=1 to /boot/loader.conf? atapicam is no longer needed after migration to CAM-based ATA stack.
