CURRENT: crash on systems with SSD

2013-05-22 Thread O. Hartmann
For a short notice:

I have a box that is at the moment stuck with r250670 since this is
version doesn't crash.

Every version above also most recent sources, coredump after several
seconds after the console login shows up with a lot of chat on the
screen regarding CAM and SCSI-like output.

This box is equipted with a Samsung 830 128 GB SSD. Other systems with
close to identical setups and hardware but with an conventional HDD do
not show such a weird behaviour.

I'm sorry not providing much more at htis very moment since I'm stuck
with work and I need that box in question, but since I get a core, I
guess configuring also debugging in the kernel could provide
informations. Is someone interested or is this problem already known?

r250886: ACPI shutdown doesn't work anymore

2013-05-22 Thread O. Hartmann
Switching off systems running FreeBSD 10.0-CURRENT #3 r250886: Tue May
21 23:12:29 CEST 2013 amd64 but pressing the power button doesn't switch
the box off anymore. The console is stuck with presenting last lines of
syncing disks and several numbers counting down the to-sync blocks.

This happens since yesterday's buildworld.

Re: bmake (installed as default make): make: illegal option -- J

2013-05-22 Thread Julian Stecklina
On 05/17/2013 09:45 PM, Florent Peterschmitt wrote:
 Hi,

With the r250749 revision of head, rebuilt world with make -j4
 buildworld, all was fine.

Then install new world, reboot and so:

 $ cd /usr/src

 [variable=value] [target ...]
 *** [buildkernel] Error code 2

 make: stopped in /usr/src

 make: stopped in /usr/src

This also affects building CURRENT from a 9.1 system. One workaround is
to build without -j, but this is quite painful on an 8-core box.

I tried using bmake from ports, but this fails, because the build system
seems to have PATH hardcoded and it doesn't include /usr/local/bin. With
`which bmake` -j8 buildworld it seems to work, though, but it is not
finished compiling yet.

Maybe a paragraph about the proper way to upgrade could be added to the
UPDATING entry?

Can you try to figure out which copy of clang ccache finds and runs?

Since emmintrin.h is an internal header, normally it should find it in
/usr/include/clang/$VERSION. During the later stages of buildworld,
this directory will be located under ${WORLDTMP}.

It looks like this clang invocation uses --sysroot, so maybe you can
check whether the file:

/home/elars/obj/usr/home/elars/src/tmp/usr/include/clang/3.3/emmintrin.h

exists.

Re: bmake (installed as default make): make: illegal option -- J

This also affects building CURRENT from a 9.1 system. One workaround is
to build without -j, but this is quite painful on an 8-core box.

I tried using bmake from ports, but this fails, because the build system
seems to have PATH hardcoded and it doesn't include /usr/local/bin. With
`which bmake` -j8 buildworld it seems to work, though, but it is not
 finished compiling yet.

Fails when building /rescue, same as without absolute path.

Please note flex/lex was updated to 2.5.37 from flex.sourceforge.net and
 __FreeBSD_version was bumped to 133.

FYI, I added couple of compatibility shims (just enough to build the
previous source trees) but it is not 100% compatible with the old
version. OTOH, this version is far more popular and third-party
sources often require this version. Most importantly, NetBSD,
DragonFly BSD, and Mac OS X already adopted it for the same reason.

It looks like it broke tinderbox. Note that it runs 8.3-PRERELEASE.
The list of broken targets matches those with gcc set as the default compiler.

Re: Problems with ipfw/natd and axe(4)

2013-05-22 Thread Spil Oss
Hi YongHyeon,

Without natd this seems to work fine (both on RELEASE and CURRENT).
Both my Hong-Kong no-name and Edimax EU-4208 seem to behave the same.

This works with natd on RELEASE as well, but just for a limited time.
I've yet to establish if it's time or #packets that cause the
processing to stop. I'll try to generate some tcpdump output and
compare working / non-working connected to NIC with txcsum/rxcsum
disabled.

Any pointers how to dig deeper?

Kind regards,

Spil.

Yes, a regression is possible there. However, the issue seems to be
axe(4) specific, since there are no reports on more common NICs.

There was no change to axe(4) except added a new device id so it
seems the issue is not in driver. In addition, AX88772B engineering
sample I have works without problems on CURRENT.
 I didn't use ipfw(4) or natd though.

And after taking a very close look at the source code for tws, I spotted
the problem. Patch included.

acct: shared rlimit object for exiting processes

2013-05-22 Thread Mateusz Guzik
When a process is exiting accounting code always allocates new rlimit,
copies old limits over and sets RLIMIT_FSIZE to RLIM_INFINITY.

Since I don't see any good for keeping old limits with exception of
RLIMIT_FSIZE, allocation each time looks unnecessary. Thus I propose the
following:
=

acct: create a special plimit object and set it for exiting processes
instead of allocating new one each time

We set all limits to RLIM_INFINITY which sould be ok (even though we
care only about RLIMT_FSIZE).

Do you have ddb compiled in ? If yes, did you used it before the
breakpoint trap was reported ?

Did you used gdb or strace in the usermode before the trap ?

 Is this a known problem?

All I could find at the Internet is a bit old and not related to chrome

to be honest, I do not know if ddb is compiled in.

The main problem would be that this is currently only machine. It also
has no serial links. Just USB and Ethernet.

Did you used gdb or strace in the usermode before the trap ?

No debugger of any kind was running.

Let me tell you what I normally do when I start this machine. It has an
Intel i7 CPU and as such it uses KMS.

- log-on as a normal user.
- start X
- start a few xterms
- start wireless network in one of them
- start chrome to log-on onto the LAN of the client
- start claws mail
- start arora

I think that I did not come further as I remember to get a message from
my daughter as the last activity of the machine in chrome.

The screen went black then and the machine started to reboot.

I think that there is not much helpful information I could give.

I work since then much longer without any problems.
