Install failure of FreeBSD 5.0 on P150
Hi, I'm trying to install FreeBSD 5.0 RELEASE using the CD created from the ISO on the ftp site. After the POST finishes, the machine attempts to load the FreeBSD boot loader from the CD to start the install, but instead simply reboots. I'm not too sure if this is the correct place, but I felt it more correct than freebsd-questions. Thanks, (Please CC me in any replies since I'm not subscribed via this address, since the FreeBSD mail server eats e-mails sent from my subscribed address). -- Cheers, Chris Howells -- [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web: http://chrishowells.co.uk, PGP key: http://chrishowells.co.uk/pgp.txt KDE: http://www.koffice.org, http://printing.kde.org, http://usability.kde.org To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe freebsd-current in the body of the message
Re: your mail
Hi, Argh, sorry about loosing the subject. Unfortunately messages from my normal ISP are't getting through to freebsd.org mailng lists (I've contacted them about it) and I'm having to use a crappy uni web mail system) which I'm not used to, so forgot the subject --- reply If you have a second box and a null modem cable, you can set up FreeBSD to use a serial console by unplugging the keyboard. You can then capture the boot output on the second machine and e-mail that out. If it doesn't automatically use the serial console w/o a keyboard, you can do: snip Thanks for the reply. Sadly this isn't going to be possible since my laptop doesn't have a serial port :( I'll have to try the verbose boot, that may give more information. Re: cbb0: unsupported card type and reboot
--- reply Strange. You gotta get me a proper dmesg or some other help to help track it down. I'd love to... sadly I do not know how to. I've only been messing around with FreeBSD for around a week (though I'm experienced with Linux, but getting bored of it) and am trying 5.0 because 4.7 locks up when I try to access my PC Card (maybe CardBus) modem. If you have any suggestions on how to get more info such as a dmesg, I'd be greatful. Hi, On Wednesday 20 November 2002 12:06 pm, Sheldon Hearn wrote: Not to discourage you from trying 5.0, but I had this problem with 4.7; my laptop would lock up on boot if I had my CardBus modem inserted already. When this lockup happens, I just eject and reinsert the card, and the machine continues the boot. This is getting slightly OT... But for me, 4.7 recognises the existence of themodem fine, it just locks as soon as I try to access /dev/cuaa0. This is why I want to try 5.0DP2, as the lack of a modem is just about theonly thing stopping me from switching from Linux ;) To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe freebsd-current in the body of the message

This bit is sufficiently similar to Linux for me to know it :) Problem is, I haven't got 4.7 installed. I want to install 5.0DP2. I can't install 5.0DP2 due to the reboot, and therefore I can't get to a command prompt in order to run dmesg Bit of a chicken egg situation -- if I could install 5.0Dp2 successfully, then I wouldn't need to be sending you the output of dmesg here ;) Also, you may find it helpful to boot verbosely by using: set boot_verbose in the boot loader prior to starting the kernel. Didn't know about that. I'll give it a go. -- Cheers, Chris Howells -- [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web: http://chrishowells.co.uk, PGP key: http://chrishowells.co.uk/pgp.txt KDE: http://www.koffice.org, http://edu.kde.org, http://usability.kde.org To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe freebsd-current in the body of the message
cbb0: unsupported card type and reboot
Hi, I'm trying to install 5.0DP2 on my Dell Inspiron 2650 laptop. Everything seems to be going fine until I get a: cbb0: unsupported card type detected at this stage, the machine reboots a few seconds after showing the message. Everything appears to be OK with ACPI and so on initialised. I haven't been able to get any further so unfortunately I cannot get a proper dmesg. -- Cheers, Chris Howells -- [EMAIL PROTECTED], [EMAIL PROTECTED] Web: http://chrishowells.co.uk, PGP key: http://chrishowells.co.uk/pgp.txt KDE: http://www.koffice.org, http://edu.kde.org, http://usability.kde.org To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with unsubscribe freebsd-current in the body of the message
