Am I just being stupid or should I expect my fresh svn co to build
using Clang on i386 targets? It seems to use gcc still. Do I still
need src.conf set up as per the wiki page?

That piece of journalism is utter garbage. As some have said on this
thread - no-one forces anyone else to use GPL licensed software. If
you don't want to use it then fine, but stop whining about the terms
of the license if you do.
