This won't happen until after 5.1 or 5.2.  For now we have 5.1-CURRENT
or something like that.

Yes, but not right away.  Please see the early adopter's guide for more 
on this point (it's EARLY.HTM in the top-level directory of a binary 
snapshot, next to the release notes and other release documents).  If 
you can't find it, try here:

RELENG_5_0 is the release branch for 5.0-RELEASE.  This branch has
existed for about a month, and we have used it to do the release
engineering activities for the (still-in-progress) 5.0-RELEASE.  This is
*not* the branch for 5-STABLE, which has not been created yet.
