Actually I think the main reason for not shipping it in binary form is that the
code is licensed under the GPL.

I have put pccard_enable=YES in my rc.conf, but pccardd doesn't start
because there is no /dev/card0.
Does anyone have a hint, that will help me get this working?

I use CVS myself from time to time, but I see no need for it to be in
base for that reason.

The boot loader would of course need to understand this setup but that
shouldn't be impossible.
Just a thought.
It might be too complicated compared to the non-standards compliant way
it works now which works quite well in practice though.
