This may relate to the X-window reboots - my machine shows that too, if
I boot without acpi; with acpi X never gets going.

Supermicro P3TDDE, 2x1ghz P3:
Via Apollo Pro 266 or 266T chipset, generic Nvidia TNT2 display.
(there is a conflict in the manual which says 266T but 8633 north bridge).

I also have a UP system, also with a via chipset (Asus KT266, with Athlon
1.2g) which doesn't show this problem (but I don't have X configured on it).

----------------------------------------------------------------

The on-screen display dies on the line that shows here
as SMMP:, which is obviously interleaved between the two
CPUs.

X will not start if I use acpi; the display hangs totally
at the SMMP line. I can log in remotely. ps shows X but kdm has
complains about:
May 27 19:11:56 gooney kdm[242]: Hung in XOpenDisplay(:0), aborting
May 27 19:11:56 gooney kdm[242]: server open failed for :0, giving up
May 27 19:11:56 gooney kdm[216]: Display :0 cannot be opened

If I don't use acpi, sometimes the system gets up with X running. This
lasts long enough for me to log in (to kde), then the system hangs
completely for a minute or two, then reboots.

I presume that there is something peculiar about VIA's APIC implementation
relating to the agp port.

This has 8633 or 8653 north bridge and 8233 south. (the supermicro manual
says Apollo Pro 266T, implying 8653, but explicitly says 8633). I need to
look at the motherboard itself but it is several miles away...

I notice that there is no irq mentioned in dmesg for anything related to
the vga/agp; the bios indicates irq 10 for this.

I had no kernel debugging till this last two boots; the boot before the
spontaneous reboot did have invariants and witness on, and did not show any panic or
ddb signs.
