I don't know if this could explain your EDID problem, but several users
had this failure to load firmware and I couldn't reproduce it.

Do you have a file called radeonkmsfw_R100_cp.ko in your kernel
directory (eg. /boot/kernel/radeonkmsfw_R100_cp.ko)?
