[Bug 213520] [patch] remove stale pointer to old java download binaries

2016-10-15 Thread bugzilla-noreply

Bug ID: 213520
Summary: [patch] remove stale pointer to old java download
binaries
   Product: Documentation
   Version: Latest
  Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
  Keywords: patch
  Severity: Affects Only Me
  Priority: ---
 Component: Website
  Assignee: freebsd-doc@FreeBSD.org
  Reporter: lini...@freebsd.org
  Keywords: patch

Created attachment 175802

patch to java/index.xml

(NB: this patch has separately been submitted to the FreeBSD Foundation for
their review.)

When the Foundation's website was recently updated, the obsolete Java bits were
apparently not carried over. These JDK/JRE components were for an earlier
version of Java, in which the Foundation sponsored a verificiation process by
Sun Microsystems (later Oracle). Recent evolution in the open source Java
space has rendered the need to go through this expensive and tedious process
obsolete.

Rather than try to coordinate reinstating these obsolete bits, the following
patch removes the link and notes the historical nature of the effort.
