When attempting to build the math/fftw3 port, the following error
message is immediately displayed and the build halted:

By the way, portmanager does not have the problems you were
attributing to postmaster. Whether that is by design or just dumb luck
I cannot attest to. That is why I still use it although most other
users have abandoned it.

I totally agree. While I do use portupgrade from time to time,
portmanager seems to fix problems that portupgrade can't and that
portmaster just makes worse. Plus, portmanager is much faster than
portmaster

1) Computers let you make more mistakes faster than
as opposed to Sun's released versions. Since it appears that FreeBSD is
lagging behind, there is no reason to work on any of the intermediate
versions, but rather concentrate on the latest released version;

From time to time, portsnap' does that. It usually remedies itself
within 24 hours. Other than being a potential superficial annoyance, I
doubt that it causes any serious harm. I have noticed that #5 seems to
be the most troublesome server however.

I use 'portmanager' myself. It fixes a lot of problems that other
'update managers' seem to miss. Update your ports tree and then run:
portmanager mail/dovecot -l -f -y
That should get all of your dependencies corrected.
