Can Not ping Hosts by name when Underscores are Present.

Does the ping utility do some sort of name checking when one wants to ping a particular host by name? A person with an account on a FreeBSD system demonstrated to me that one could successfully look up a given host using nslookup but if you pinged that host by name as in ping

Thank you very much. I run our domain name servers and this fits what I suspected was going on. bind Version 9 stopped checking names for illegal characters and I usually try to discourage people from using them in names, but I thought I had better check to make sure there wasn't
