I am currently trying to install FoxPro 2.6 for unix onto FreeBSD 4.5.
However, any time I try to run FoxPro, I get the message Too many files
open. After doing some research, it does not appear a file handling
problem.
Does anyone have any insight into this?

As I said, it does not appear to be a file handling problem, but it does
appear to be somewhat common:

maxprocesses 1818
openfiles 3636
subsbsize infinity
kern.maxfiles 4040
kern.maxfilesperproc 3636
