for you to get started with would be PC-BSD www.pcbsd.org or DesktopBSD www.desktopbsd.org. Both will boot you into a graphical interface and will configure your internet connection for you. I find PC-BSD a little easier to start with but both work well, both can use the ports collection and PC-BSD has a very easy install routine for commonly used programs.
