doesn't work at
all. so... i need to figure out why the keyboard is laggy to begin with (even
though it is perfectly responsive in windows) and why the mouse doesn't even
show up. thanks in advance... ;D

What version of freebsd are you running? I have the same mouse and a belkin
2 port e series switch and it's quite the opposite. Works good both ways but
after I switch from Windows - Freebsd then back to Windows again
is laggy to begin
with
(even
though it is perfectly responsive in windows) and why the mouse
doesn't

for a fix or anything since i quickly
fixed it myself, but i thought that a situation like that could make for some
interesting
(read *bad*) situations.

not completely sure if it's ok to be giving windoze advice on a freebsd
mailing list, but have you tried right clicking on My Computer, selecting
Manage and checking whether or not the D: partition is still on the disk?
