I have a large usb harddisk with a 60GB freebsd slice that I want to use
to backup the FreeBSD 5.4 installation on my laptop once in a while.
I think that tar is the right tool for this purpuse.
Now I ask:
What directories do *** NOT *** require to be backed up?
I know this is the case of /tmp
I have configured my laptop to mount a USB mass storage automagically. When
I plug the device the following messages appear:

Carissimi,
In rc.conf ho pccard_enable.

To put it in a nutshell my FreeBSD box prints BUT it is :

I installed 5.3, tailored and recompiled the kernel. Now I don't see the

What shall I do?

I'm trying to compile and install koffice BUT freeBSD 5.3 doesn't find the

Please help.

After years of linux distributions now I'm having a go at FreeBDS.
Therefore, as a perfect newbye in FreeBSD I have just installed the developer
stuff with x support and the ports of version 5.3.
After having compiled the Midnight Commander mc from the ports' sources
I noticed that running mc the

My question: if I modify rc.conf either directly or via sysinstall how
can I make the system be aware of that WITHOUT REBOOTING, in other words,
how can I make FreeBSD execute the modified rc.conf?
Thanks

I'm accustomed to work with postgresql under linux both debian and gentoo.
Now on my pentium 3 box under freeBSD 5.2.1 I've just compiled the following
ports:
postgresql7
postgresql7-client
postgresql7-opt
In /usr/local/etc/rc.d I find 010.pgsql.sh to start the service but
