You might want to try doing a cd /var and then try the command du -h which will show how much space each directory is using thus showing what is eating up your space. Compare this to df -h and if the numbers dont hash out a process is keeping disk space. To find out which process could be doing that you can install lsof from /usr/ports/sysutils/lsof In my case it was as easy as killing apache and restarting it and I cleared up hundreds of MB of space.
